I'm Principal Product Manager at Realizeit Learning, an innovative platform for creating personalised learning experiences both in academic and workplace settings. My approach is one of empathetic problem solving; ensuring a broader understanding to deliver the best technological solution. I'm a firm believer that clear communication drives project success. My upbringing on an Irish dairy farm has also given me a healthy appreciation for the outdoors!
Our passions define who we are. Here are a few of mine:
I enjoy exploring and understanding different parts of the world. One (now completed) ambition of mine was to visit 30 countries before I turned 30. Now, I'm just on the lookout for the next adventure.
I've been a regular listener of podcasts since 2009. It's one of my favourite ways to learn something new. Here are some of my all-time choice podcasts as well as some recent gems.
While I find myself on the teaching side of education these days, I'm always learning and thankfully have a background that helps me daily. My approach is to accurately convey technical and complex information in useable ways.
My research career has spanned both academia and industry. (List of publications.)
My introduction to research began at undergraduate level in University College Cork. By joining the Tyndall National Institute and the Ultracold Quantum Gasses group, I was privileged to be part of novel theoretical physics research which impacted microchip design and information theory.
My postgraduate studies at University College Dublin provided me with the tools and environment to perform original research. I was a member of the multi-disciplinary Claude Shannon Institute for discrete mathematics, coding, cryptography and information theory. My speciality was on mathematical aspects, which cumulated with my doctoral thesis entitled "On Properties of the Mirimanoff Polynomials". This research group was a hub of innovation and had numerous industry partners.
My career brought me to CCKF Ltd., where I joined the applied research team that designs algorithms to support educational outcomes for an online learning environment. These advances were strategic in brining the product to market. Now as my role as product manager, my research methodology has become an invaluable skill-set in pushing products forward.
Not too much to say here. I like doing the occasion hike!
When it comes to my software stack, Windows and Android are my OS preferences with Firefox as my browser of choice.

Pet projects are a fantastic way to learn about new ideas. Here are some of my favourites over the years.
A miner before it was cool!
I first encountered bitcoin in the early years, long before it had any monetary value. The mathematics was fascinating; a virtual distributed ledger was a genius concept. I mined bitcoin as an experiment, and even had a wallet with some bitcoins to my name (or rather my id!). It was years later when I tried to find my wallet from my old hard-drive. Alas, it was gone with the bits.
What should we watch?
My start into Android development was to see if I could create an app for home usage that would quickly help find something we both wanted to watch (and avoid endless scrolling!). This launched me into a wide variety of concepts such as the Kotlin programming language, consumption of APIs for data retrieval, good app design, and database management.
Steps on how to build a personalised crossword
As part of a secret project, I challenged myself to hand-design a crossword puzzle where the clues and answers were personalised to an individual. I also set the extra restriction that the crossword had to be a proper grid, which meant the answers had to fit in exactly (this is harder than it sounds!). Part of my solution was to use RegEx on a corpus of text messages to help identify suitable entries that would keep it personal and be a good fit. She said Yes!
I work remotely from Ireland, and have the pleasure of interacting with folks across the globe. I look forward to making new connections. Say hello.
